Episode 9: Pediatric Psychology
Last week I spoke about child psychology more broadly. In this episode, I talk about a specialty within child psychology: pediatric psychology. Those of us in this specialty have dedicated ourselves to understanding how best to work with children who have medical conditions. We look at the systems they are in, and have an understanding of how medical conditions can influence different relationships.
For further reading about pediatric psychology, take a look at a previous post I wrote about the field. I'm also in the process of creating posts about specific challenges related to medical conditions in youth, including uncertainty and visibility with more posts to follow in the future. Division 54 of the American Psychological Association is the Society of Pediatric Psychology (which, at the time of this posting, has a new website that is still undergoing development). SPP has a brochure for parents that describes the basics of pediatric psychology.
