Personal Life Update 19
As many of you may have noticed, it has been a really long time since I have posted any content (including blog posts and podcast episodes; and I only recently started tweeting again), which is due to the fact that I really needed to prioritize my focus on grad school (specifically finishing my dissertation) and internship. But now both have been completed, and I'm excited to announce that I am officially Dr. Draycen DeCator! (a.k.a., Dr. Dray)
To celebrate, and as part of the transition to post-doc and establishing more of a professional identity for myself, I am in the process of revamping a lot of my public-facing content. That includes a visual refresh of my site (which happened a little while ago, and may undergo some more refinement in the coming weeks), getting back into blog post writing and podcast recording (no promises on consistency for either yet), a complete revamp of my Android app (which I'll detail in a separate post), and so on. This will all take some time, as I'm actively in the process of transitioning from grad school to post-doc, but over the coming months I'm hoping to have a lot of exciting updates to share.
As part of this process I'll be getting used to some new apps/tools I'm starting to use as well, which I'm hoping will help to improve the quality of the content I produce as well as help me work on creating content more consistently. I'm taking what I learned from starting a website, a podcast, an app, and so on and building on that knowledge to help make things more efficient. For example, I have a much better understanding of the basics of creating an app which is allowing me to customize it much more in the revamp; I have a better understanding of the steps involved in producing a podcast episode so I have better tools to help with recording and editing; and for writing blog posts I've focused on identifying ways to merge the processes of keeping track of ideas and actually writing, with an emphasis on reducing barriers to getting words onto the screen and ready to be published on my site.
So keep your eye out for new content to start coming out within the next few weeks! If you have thoughts on content that may be helpful to see, now is also a great time to let me know your ideas for posts/episodes/etc. as I start to put together lists and drafts of ideas. You can do so, as always, using the "Contact Me" button at the bottom of the page, or by leaving a comment on this post. I can't promise I'll address every suggested topic, but I'll try to address the ones that I feel are within my scope of knowledge to address.
Finally, I want to thank all of you who visit this site, or read/listen to some of my other content. I have had a lot of encouraging responses from people recently, which has helped to boost my motivation to get back to content creation. It's one thing to see information about page views, but it's a whole different (and much more potent) experience to receive words of encouragement and to hear what type of content has been helpful for all of you. That also gives me ideas for other topics to address in blog posts and beyond.
So thank you all, and I look forward to providing you with more helpful information in the future!
